Hong Kong’s Bright Lights

by Author Unknown

Hong Kong stands out as one of the leading destinations for the keen traveller. A fascinating display of ‘East meets West’ due to the mix of its Chinese roots and the culture brought to it by its period as a British Colony. Hong Kong is a place of many identities and contradicting realities. Its modern cosmopolitan lifestyle intertwines with deep rooted traditional Chinese superstitions. When new skyscrapers are erected Fung Shui experts are employed to ensure the new structure will give off the correct spiritual vibe. And this is no small business; with 7588 skyscrapers Hong Kong has more than any other.

For the tourist, Hong Kong is a place with many areas of interest and things to do. The high climate, with only January and February experiencing temperatures of below 20 degrees Centigrade, means the beach is always an option and the city’s backdrop of mountains present a healthy challenge for the keen hiker or those willing to try something new. The Hong Kong government supports cultural institutions such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Getting from your hotel to your destination allows you to take advantage of Hong Kong’s comprehensive range of public transport and with ferries, double-decker buses and trams, trains and the occasional rickshaw and a simple pre-paid card system similar to London’s Oyster cards, getting from A to B is easy. Come night time the city is lit up by its charismatic and impressive bright lights shining from skyscrapers, billboards and restaurants.

With exciting cuisine, good transport links, cultural diversity and attractions in abundance, Hong Kong is highly regarded as one of the best places to visit. When travelling to Hong Kong make sure you take out comprehensive cover for your trip.  Try an established provider like AA Travel Insurance for this.
