Abbreviations: An abbreviation is a shortened
form of a word or phrase.
Some common
abbreviations for titles of people are:
Mr.
Mrs.
Dr.
Common acronyms and
agencies that are referred to by their initials use all capitals and no full
stops:
VCR IBM RCMP UNICEF NATO
Write out uncommon
acronyms the first time you use them:
Example: The Computer
Accounting Technician program (CAT)
Addresses
Road = Rd.
Drive = Dr.
Street = St.
Avenue = Ave.
Directions
N = North
S = South
E = East
W = West
Dates
Monday = Mon.
Tuesday = Tues.
Wednesday = Wed.
Thursday = Thurs.
Friday = Fri.
With all of the months
except September, the abbreviation is the first 3 letters of the word.
